AnswerPrompter for Mac · Last updated 3 November 2026
The short version
AnswerPrompter has no account, analytics, ads or tracking, and it sends none of your data to us, its developer. Speech is transcribed on your Mac and audio never leaves it. Only if you add your own AI key and allow it, text from the call and your notes go to the AI provider you chose, to write the answers.
On your Mac
- Audio. AnswerPrompter listens to the call's sound and your microphone while it is listening, and transcribes them on your Mac with Apple's speech recognition. Audio is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
- The transcript. The call's text, up to its last 400 sentences, is kept in memory while AnswerPrompter runs, to know what was asked and answered. It is never saved, and goes when you quit.
- Your notes. Files you add as reference are read once and kept as text, with any research brief, inside AnswerPrompter's own sandboxed folder on your Mac.
- Your keys. API keys you enter are kept in your Mac's keychain.
- Settings such as text size, language and hotkeys are kept on your Mac.
What is sent, and to whom
Without an AI key, nothing leaves your Mac: answers come from your notes, found on it. When you add a key, AnswerPrompter says what will be sent and keeps the key only if you choose Allow. From then on:
- With a Claude key, AnswerPrompter sends Anthropic (api.anthropic.com) your notes, when listening starts and every few minutes after so answers come quickly, and with them the last minute of the call's transcript, both sides, whenever the other side asks a question or mentions something in your notes, or you press Answer Now. Research before a call sends who the call is with and your notes, and Claude searches the web for it. Anthropic handles this under its own terms and privacy policy.
- With an OpenRouter key and a model through OpenRouter chosen, the same text goes to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), which passes it on to a company that hosts that model. AnswerPrompter asks OpenRouter to use only hosts that, by OpenRouter's account, don't train on what they are sent; a host may keep it for a while, for example to check for abuse. The menu names the host that answered. OpenRouter handles it under its own terms and privacy policy.
AnswerPrompter sends this text to no one else, and only to write your answers. It goes under the account your key belongs to, and that provider's terms and privacy policy govern how it is protected and kept.
Your key goes only to its own provider. We never see your key, your notes or your calls. Remove a key in the menu or Settings at any time to stop sending.
The people on your call
AnswerPrompter transcribes everyone on the call, and with an AI key their words go to your provider too. Tell the people on your call, and get their consent where the law requires it.
Deleting your data
Clear Reference and Remove Brief in the menu delete your notes; Remove Key deletes a key from the keychain. Deleting AnswerPrompter and its folder deletes everything else it kept; remove your keys first, since the keychain keeps them otherwise. Anthropic, or OpenRouter and the host it picks, may keep what they received for a while, under the account your key belongs to and their own policies. To have it deleted, ask Anthropic or OpenRouter; their privacy policies, linked above, say how. We never receive it, so we have none of it to delete.
